Somewhere Over the Rainbow (1939) was almost cut from The Wizard of Oz twice — studio executives thought it was too slow and made Judy Garland look childish. The songwriter Harold Arlen fought to keep it in. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and was later voted the greatest song of the 20th century by the Recording Industry Association of America. Judy Garland was 16 when she recorded it.
