Pedro Almodóvar's The Skin I Live In is his most unsettling and structurally complex film — Antonio Banderas's plastic surgeon developing an artificial skin resistant to burns, and the captive young woman in his Toledo mansion whose identity is the film's devastating central secret. A film that conceals its horror premises within the glossy surfaces of an Almodóvar domestic thriller until the revelation strips everything away.
