PLATE 25 — Liberty Enlightening the World. Designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi with an iron framework by Gustave Eiffel, dedicated in New York Harbor on 28 October 1886. A gift from France. The copper exterior has oxidised over 140 years to its characteristic verdigris green — the colour of time and weather. Botanical companions connecting France and America: Gallica Rose (French), Pale Iris, Madonna Lily, Edelweiss and Corn Poppy. Labels: torch, crown, tablet, robe, pedestal. The symbolic note: a torch held aloft turns architecture into a gesture of welcome.

An original 98types design on 260gsm museum-grade archival matte paper, printed in England. From £3. Buy 3 get 1 free. Same-day dispatch.
