The thistle has been Scotland's national emblem since the reign of James III in the 1470s. The legend attached to it is perfectly Scottish: Norse invaders sneaking barefoot through a Scottish encampment at night stepped on the prickled plant, cried out in pain and alerted the sleeping defenders — saving Scotland from defeat. The thistle as emblem of Scottish defiance, stubbornness and prickliness in the service of survival is entirely accurate.

The Flower Market Scotland poster gives this ancient emblem the bold graphic treatment it deserves. From £3. Buy 3 get 1 free. Printed in England.
