PLATE 20 — Torre di Pisa. The freestanding bell tower of Pisa Cathedral, begun in 1173 — construction halted twice as the ground shifted beneath it. The tilt that became apparent almost immediately became, over centuries, the building's most famous quality. Stabilised to approximately 4 degrees in the 1990s. Botanical companions from the Tuscan landscape: Gallica Rose, Bearded Iris, Corn Poppy, Lavender and Carnation. Labels: bell chamber, arcades, marble columns, foundation, lean. The architect's note: a tower made famous by beauty, engineering and persistent inclination.

An original 98types design on 260gsm museum-grade archival matte paper, printed in England at Camden Market. From £3. Buy 3 get 1 free. Same-day first class dispatch.
