Why NFL Posters Are Booming in the UK

Twenty years ago, American football in Britain was a late-night curiosity on Channel 4 for a small group of devoted fans. Today it is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. The NFL played its first regular-season game at Wembley in 2007, and London games have sold out ever since. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was even built with a dedicated NFL playing surface hidden beneath its football pitch, which tells you how seriously the league takes its British fans.

The biggest change, though, has happened on phones. Teenagers across the UK now follow quarterbacks and receivers on social media, watch highlights on YouTube, play the latest Madden on their consoles, and stay up past midnight on Sunday to watch games live. Ask a 14-year-old in Manchester or Glasgow who his favourite athlete is, and there's a real chance the answer is Patrick Mahomes or Justin Jefferson.

That growth has created a problem for parents, partners and friends: what do you buy an NFL fan in the UK? Official merchandise is expensive and often has to be shipped from the United States. Jerseys can cost £100 or more. And because most British NFL fans support a team they have never seen play in person, they love anything that makes that connection feel real.

That's exactly where an NFL poster comes in. It's affordable, it goes straight on the wall, and it says "I know who your favourite player is". At 98 Types Studio, we design our NFL player posters in our studio in Camden, London, and our collection now includes 40 players, from today's MVPs to the Hall of Famers who built the game. In this guide we'll show you how to use them to decorate a bedroom or a games room, how to pick the right player for the right person, and how to turn a £3 print into one of the best Christmas presents they'll open.

NFL Bedroom Ideas for Boys, Teens & Students

An NFL-themed bedroom is one of the easiest room makeovers you can do. You don't need to repaint or buy new furniture: a few well-chosen posters in matching frames can transform a plain wall into a feature that feels like a locker room. Here's how to get it right at every age.

For younger boys (ages 7 to 12)

Younger children love bright colours and big personalities. Choose current stars with exciting playing styles and recognisable team colours. Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, famous for his "Griddy" celebration dance, is a huge favourite with this age group. So are Saquon Barkley, who ran for 2,005 yards in 2024 and won the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, and Patrick Mahomes, whose no-look passes look like something out of a video game.

Hang posters at your child's eye level rather than adult eye level, so they feel like the wall belongs to them. Two or three posters in a row above the bed or desk is plenty for a smaller room.

For teenagers (ages 13 to 17)

Teenagers want their room to say something about who they are. The best approach is to build the wall around their team. If they support the Kansas City Chiefs, pair Mahomes with Travis Kelce. If they're a Cincinnati Bengals fan, Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase make a perfect quarterback-and-receiver duo. Young quarterbacks like C.J. Stroud, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye are also hugely popular with teenagers, because they feel like players from their own generation.

For a more grown-up look, mix one or two modern stars with a retro legend. A row of Mahomes, Tom Brady and Joe Montana tells the story of the quarterback position across three generations, and teenagers love the debate it starts.

For students and uni rooms

Halls of residence and shared houses often come with strict rules about what you can stick to the walls, so lightweight posters are ideal. At £3 a print, they fit any student budget, and buy 3, get 1 free means a full wall costs less than a takeaway. Go for bold, iconic players that look good next to streetwear and sneakers: Bo Jackson, Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch and Deion "Prime Time" Sanders all have the swagger a student room needs.

NFL Wall Art Around the Home: Man Caves, Games Rooms & Living Rooms

NFL posters aren't just for kids. Some of our biggest customers are adults decorating a space where they actually watch the games.

• The man cave: this is where the legends shine. Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Lawrence Taylor and Dan Marino give a man cave the feel of a classic American sports bar. Hang them in a straight line above the TV or bar.
• The games room: pair NFL posters with a console setup. Modern playmakers like Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts feel right at home next to a gaming chair.
• The living room: if the NFL is a family obsession, one or two framed posters near the TV make Sunday nights feel like an event. Choose a single team so the room stays cohesive.
• The home office: a single legend, such as Peyton Manning, five-time MVP, or Tom Brady, is a quietly motivating presence above a desk. Nobody prepared for a big moment better than those two.
• The garage gym: defensive giants bring the intensity: Ray Lewis, Aaron Donald and Micah Parsons will make sure you finish that last set.

A useful rule: modern stars suit bedrooms and games rooms, while legends suit shared spaces like living rooms, offices and man caves, where guests of every age will recognise them.

Shop by Team: The Best NFL Posters for Every Fan Base

NFL fans in the UK are fiercely loyal to their team, often for reasons they can barely explain: a game they saw on TV as a kid, a favourite player, a helmet they liked the look of. Choosing posters by team is the single best way to make a gift feel personal. Here are the teams in our collection and the players we recommend for each.

San Francisco 49ers: The Dynasty Wall

The 49ers' dynasty of the 1980s and 90s produced some of the greatest players in history, which makes them perfect for a legends wall. Joe Montana, "Joe Cool", won four Super Bowls. Jerry Rice is widely seen as the greatest receiver ever, with three Super Bowl titles. Steve Young was a two-time MVP and the MVP of Super Bowl XXIX. Add Deion "Prime Time" Sanders, who also starred for the Cowboys, and you have four of the most famous names of the era.

Baltimore Ravens: Speed, Power & Intensity

Ravens fans get the best of both worlds. Lamar Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP, is the most electrifying runner ever to play quarterback. Derrick "King Henry" Henry is one of the few running backs to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. And Ray Lewis, a two-time Super Bowl champion, remains the heart of Baltimore's defensive identity. A Ravens trio is perfect for a home gym.

Philadelphia Eagles: Super Bowl LIX Champions

The Eagles' victory in Super Bowl LIX created a wave of new fans in the UK. Jalen Hurts was named Super Bowl LIX MVP, and Saquon Barkley ran for 2,005 yards in the same season. Reggie White began his legendary career in Philadelphia, so he fits on an Eagles wall as naturally as a Packers one.

Detroit Lions: Barry, Megatron & Amon-Ra

Detroit fans have waited a long time for success, and they've had some extraordinary players along the way. Barry Sanders ran for 2,053 yards in 1997 with the most elusive running style the NFL has ever seen. Calvin "Megatron" Johnson set a record with 1,964 receiving yards in 2012. And Amon-Ra St. Brown is today's star receiver and a true fan favourite. Three eras, one team.

Minnesota Vikings: Receivers and Runners

Justin Jefferson is the modern face of the Vikings and a hero to younger fans. Randy Moss, who caught 23 touchdowns in 2007, is one of the most spectacular receivers of all time. And Adrian "All Day" Peterson won the 2012 MVP after running for 2,097 yards in a single season.

Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys & More

Bengals fans should go straight for Joe Burrow, Cincinnati's franchise quarterback, and Ja'Marr Chase, who won the receiving triple crown in 2024. Cowboys fans have Emmitt Smith, the NFL's all-time leading rusher and a three-time Super Bowl champion, plus Deion Sanders.

We also have standout posters for fans of many other teams:

• Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen, the 2024 NFL MVP.
• Houston Texans: C.J. Stroud, the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year.
• Washington Commanders: Jayden Daniels, the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year.
• Miami Dolphins: Dan Marino, Hall of Fame passer and Dolphins icon.
• Indianapolis Colts: Peyton Manning, five-time MVP and two-time Super Bowl champion.
• Pittsburgh Steelers: Terry Bradshaw, four-time Super Bowl champion of the Steel Curtain era.
• Chicago Bears: Walter "Sweetness" Payton, Super Bowl XX champion.
• New York Giants: Lawrence Taylor, the 1986 MVP and two-time champion.
• Seattle Seahawks: Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch, Super Bowl XLVIII champion.
• Atlanta Falcons: Michael Vick, the first quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
• Chargers: LaDainian Tomlinson, 2006 MVP with a record 31 touchdowns.
• Raiders: Bo Jackson, the two-sport icon behind "Bo Knows".
• Los Angeles Rams: Aaron Donald, three-time Defensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl LVI champion.

Legends or Modern Stars? How to Choose the Right NFL Poster

One of the most common questions we get at our Camden stall is simple: should I buy a current player or a legend? The honest answer is that it depends on who the poster is for, and the best walls often have both.

When to choose a modern star

Modern players are the right choice for children and teenagers, because these are the athletes they watch every week, see in their social feeds and play as on their consoles. A poster of Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson or Saquon Barkley feels current and exciting. Young quarterbacks such as C.J. Stroud, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye have the extra appeal of being at the start of their careers, so a teenager can grow up alongside them.

The one thing to remember with current players is that they can change teams. If you're buying for a fan who cares more about the club than any individual, choose a player who is firmly identified with that franchise, or mix in a legend.

When to choose a legend

Legends are perfect for adults, for shared rooms and for anyone who has followed the game for a long time. Their place in history is fixed, so the poster will never feel out of date. Many dads and grandads in the UK first discovered the NFL in the 1980s and 90s, when players like Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Walter Payton and Lawrence Taylor were household names. A poster of one of those heroes brings back memories in a way no modern player can.

Legends also make the best conversation starters. Hang Barry Sanders next to Derrick Henry and every visitor will have an opinion on who was the better running back.

The best of both: the "then and now" pair

Our favourite trick is to pair a legend with the modern player who carries on their legacy. Some combinations that always work:

• Quarterbacks: Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, the greatest of the last generation and the greatest of this one.
• Dual-threat quarterbacks: Michael Vick and Lamar Jackson, the pioneer and the man who perfected the role.
• Receivers: Jerry Rice and Justin Jefferson.
• Tight ends: Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce, two of the most entertaining players ever.
• Running backs: Emmitt Smith and Saquon Barkley.
• Pass rushers: Reggie White and Micah Parsons.

NFL Christmas Gift Guide: Who to Buy For

Christmas is the busiest time of the year for NFL posters, and it's easy to see why. December is the business end of the NFL regular season, when every game matters and fans are glued to the screen. A poster of their favourite player under the tree lands at exactly the right moment. Here are our recommendations for everyone on your list.

The perfect NFL stocking filler

Stocking fillers are notoriously hard to get right: too many end up as plastic novelties that are forgotten by Boxing Day. An NFL poster is different. It's light and flat, it costs from £3, and it's something they will actually use, because it goes straight on the wall. For families with more than one NFL fan, buy three posters and get the fourth free, then share them out across the stockings.

Order early for Christmas

December is our busiest month, both online and at our Camden Market stall, so we recommend ordering your NFL posters by early December to avoid any last-minute stress. If you're in London, you can also visit us in person at Camden Market, Market Hall, Lower Floor, Stall 3, open every day from 10am to 6pm, and pick up your posters the same day.

Gifts for Friends: Super Bowl Parties, Birthdays & Secret Santa

NFL fandom in the UK is often a social thing. Friends gather for London games, stay up for Sunday Night Football together, and throw Super Bowl parties every February. That makes NFL posters a brilliant gift between friends.

• Super Bowl party host gift: instead of bringing another bottle, bring the host a poster of their team's star. It's a gesture they'll remember long after the game, and it fits perfectly on the wall of the room where you all watched it.
• Birthday gift for a friend: find out their team, then pick a current star and a legend from that franchise. Two posters plus a card makes a thoughtful present for under £10.
• Housewarming gift: moving into a new flat means bare walls. An NFL poster for a friend's new games room or living room is a gift they'll use on day one.
• Fantasy football league prize: running a fantasy league with friends? Make the trophy a framed poster of the player who won the league for the champion. It's a far better prize than a cheap plastic cup.
• London Game day: if you're heading to Wembley or Tottenham with friends, a poster of each person's favourite player is a fun way to mark the trip.

The NFL Year for UK Fans: When to Give an NFL Poster

Christmas is the big moment, but the NFL calendar offers plenty of other perfect occasions for a poster. If you're planning ahead, here's the year at a glance.

And of course, birthdays happen all year round. If you're not sure what an NFL fan would like, a poster of their favourite player is one of the very few gifts that is almost impossible to get wrong.

Build an NFL Gallery Wall (Buy 3, Get 1 Free)

The best NFL walls tell a story. Because every order of three posters gets a fourth free, building a gallery wall is also the best value way to buy. Here are six of our favourite combinations.

Hanging your NFL gallery wall: lay the posters out on the floor first and take a photo before you put anything on the wall. Use matching frames, keep the gaps equal, and hang the centre of the group at roughly eye level (or the eye level of the child whose room it is). For a row above a bed or TV, align the bottom edges of the frames rather than the tops.

Framing and Caring for Your NFL Posters

A frame turns a poster into a piece of wall art, and it protects it for years. For a bedroom or games room, simple black or white frames suit every NFL team's colours and keep a gallery wall looking tidy. If you want a more premium look in a living room or office, a slim natural wood frame gives a calm, modern finish.

Hang posters away from direct sunlight, which can fade colours over time, and avoid damp walls in garages and outbuildings unless the print is framed behind glass. In a teenager's bedroom, removable adhesive strips designed for frames are a good alternative to nails, especially in rented homes and student halls. And if you're giving a poster as a gift, slipping it inside an inexpensive frame before wrapping makes it look like a far bigger present than it really is.
